Quick Answer
Start with ActiveSG. Membership is free, and adult citizens and PRs pay S$2.50 a gym entry or S$1.00 for a weekday swim. A 12-month gym pass costs S$300, against S$2,400 a year at a club priced from S$200 a month before promotions, a S$2,100 gap. Add free classes and park routes.
The Useful Number: A 12-month ActiveSG gym pass costs S$300. A commercial club priced from S$200 a month costs S$2,400 a year at that price, before any promotion, so the public gym can save you S$2,100.
What Does Keeping Fit Really Need To Cost?
The best workout is the one you keep doing, and it rarely needs an expensive contract. Singapore has cheap public gyms and pools, free classes and hundreds of kilometres of park routes. Start with those, and pay more only for something you will use every week.

How Much Do ActiveSG Gyms And Pools Cost?
ActiveSG membership is free. For Singapore Citizens and PRs, a gym entry costs S$2.50 for adults and S$1.50 for students and seniors aged 55 and above; the standard rate is S$3.30. You must be at least 12 to use the gym, and staff can show new users the equipment.
A swim at a normal ActiveSG pool costs S$1.00 on weekdays and S$1.30 at weekends for adult citizens and PRs, and S$0.50 or S$0.60 for children and seniors. Pools with special features cost a little more. Citizens aged 65 and above enter ActiveSG pools and gyms free.
Is A Gym Pass Worth It?
The MyActiveGYM peak pass for adults costs S$30 a month or S$300 for 12 months, and covers all opening hours. The off-peak pass, for weekdays until 4pm, costs S$15 a month, S$40 for six months or S$80 for 12 months. That 12-month price, rechecked on ActiveSG’s rates page on 13 October 2026, works out under S$7 a month.
At S$2.50 an entry, 12 visits cost S$30 and 13 cost S$32.50, so the monthly peak pass pays off from the 13th visit, about three a week. The off-peak pass pays off from the 7th visit. Going less than that? Pay per entry.
Compare that with a commercial gym. Fitness First publishes single-club membership from S$200 a month, or S$2,400 a year before any promotion, against S$300 for a year at ActiveSG. Virgin Active lists plans from S$41 a week. Many other chains do not publish prices, so ask for the full cost, the minimum term and the exit fee in writing before you sign.
- First 12 Visits At S$2.50: S$30
- 13th Visit: S$2.50
- 13 Visits Paid Per Entry: S$32.50
- Monthly Peak Pass: S$30

How Do You Use ActiveSG Credits?
Credits pay for gym and swim passes and facility bookings, and part of programme fees. Singapore Citizens and PRs who logged in to MyActiveSG+ in 2025 received S$100 of SG60 credits.
All credits now run until 31 December 2026. To roll unused credits into 2027, make at least one paid transaction in 2026, such as a pass, booking or programme paid with cash or credits. Free bookings and free programmes do not count.
What Can You Do For Free?
HPB’s MOVE IT programmes run free workout classes, including Sundays @ The Park at more than 50 locations and Sunrise In The City for office workers. Find schedules in the Healthy 365 app.
For running and cycling, NParks’ Park Connector Network has more than 380km of trails. The Round Island Route will be a continuous 150km loop, and its first 75km opened in 2022. Many parks also have free fitness corners with outdoor equipment.
Where Can You Buy Sports Gear For Less?
Buy basic gear first and upgrade only when you know you will stick with the sport. Decathlon has six Experience stores in Singapore. Its membership is free for adults, and members can return eligible unused items within 365 days, against 15 days for non-members. Its Second Life range sells returned items at lower prices, but they cannot be returned.
Second-hand is often better value for bikes, weights and equipment people buy and rarely use. Carousell lists plenty, and the Salvation Army’s Re:Nue thrift stores sell donated goods. Inspect items before you pay.
Can You Get Fit At Home?
Yes. HealthHub’s MOVE IT pages have free HPB workout videos, from beginner bodyweight sessions and cardio to chair pilates and routines for seniors. A mat and your own body weight are enough to start.
HPB recommends adults do at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate activity a week. Brisk walks, stairs and home sessions all count.
What Should You Do Before You Pay For Fitness?
- Count how often you exercised last month.
- Price that at S$2.50 an ActiveSG entry before buying a pass.
- Try free MOVE IT classes and park routes first.
- Use or roll over your ActiveSG credits before 31 December 2026.
- Ask a commercial gym for the total cost, minimum term and exit fee in writing.
- Buy gear second-hand or from a shop with a long return window.
- Cancel any membership you have not used for a month.
