What This Estimate Assumes

Rough estimate. “Fee drag” means how much fees shrink your final balance. All three options use the same starting amount, monthly amount and steady return. Only the yearly fee changes. We take the fee off the return and work month by month: each month grows by (yearly return − yearly fee) ÷ 12, and your monthly amount goes in at the end of the month. The ETF Dividend Tax tool works year by year instead, so its figures are not directly comparable. The tool uses the all-in yearly % you enter, including a fund’s expense ratio (TER). We do not model tiered pricing, sales charges, insurance costs, buy-sell spreads, tax or performance differences. The example labels are not recommendations. Use each product’s true all-in fee.

What Does “Lost To Fees” Mean?

It is how much less that option ends with than the same plan with no fee at all. It includes the growth the fee money would have earned, so it is more than the fees you pay.

Are These Typical Product Fees?

No. The starting fees are examples, not market quotes. Replace them with the all-in fees of the products you are comparing.
