Your Cash Buffer

Housing, utilities, groceries, transport, insurance and minimum loan repayments.

Money you could use within a few days, such as savings and current accounts. Leave out investments, any CPF savings and credit limits.

On a work pass? If your job ends, your employer must cancel your pass within a week of your last day of notice. Your employer can ask for a Short-Term Visit Pass of up to 90 days on an Employment Pass, or 30 days on an S Pass, to find a new job or move home. That is why a bigger buffer, plus the cost of moving home, helps: enter that cost below. MOM: Employment Pass ↗ (opens in new tab) · MOM: S Pass ↗ (opens in new tab) · Read More →

For example flights home, ending a lease early or shipping your things. Leave at 0 if it does not apply. It is added to your target and set aside first.

What This Estimate Assumes

Rough guide only. We divide your emergency cash by your essential monthly spending, after setting aside any one-off moving cost you enter (that cost is also added to the target). You choose the target, as there is no single right number. Time to target assumes you add the same amount each month, with no withdrawals, interest, inflation or spending changes. Investments, credit limits and CPF are left out because getting that money may mean a loss, cost or conditions.

Where Should I Keep My Emergency Fund?

Keep it easy to reach, safe from losses and apart from your daily spending money. Compare account conditions before you choose where to keep it.
