Quick Answer

It depends on the type of care, your confirmed subsidy and how long care lasts. An example S$2,500 monthly care fee with a 20% subsidy starts at S$2,000 net. Over ten years at 3% inflation, it totals about S$275,133. That leaves out setup costs, extras and medical costs. It is not a provider quote.

The Useful Number: An example S$2,500 monthly care fee with a 20% subsidy starts at S$2,000 net. Over ten years at 3% inflation, it totals about S$275,133.

Should You Choose Care By Needs Before Cost?

A helper, senior daycare and a nursing home give different kinds of support. The calculator does not judge medical suitability or service quality, so agree on the support needed with family and care professionals first, then get itemised charges.

For care services, enter the fee before subsidy and a subsidy you have confirmed separately. For a helper, the input combines salary, food and insurance, plus the levy you pick. Neither covers every household or medical cost.

How Much Does Ten Years Of Care Cost?

Take a made-up nursing-home fee of S$2,500 a month, a 20% subsidy, ten years of care and 3% yearly cost inflation. It is not a provider quote.

The net cost starts at S$2,000 a month, or S$24,000 in the first year, and totals S$275,133 over ten years. That adds up yearly costs, with inflation applied after each year. It is not the amount you must have today, and returns and payment timing are not modelled.

Enter how many of you share the cost and the calculator splits it evenly: two people would pay S$1,000 a month each in the first year.

How Do Subsidies And Levies Affect The Estimate?

Long-term care subsidies depend on eligibility and a household means test, which the percentage field does not do. Confirm your subsidy with the provider or the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC); the model holds it constant, though rules can change.

The helper option offers two levies. The S$60 concessionary levy applies only where Ministry of Manpower (MOM) conditions are met; otherwise pick the S$300 standard levy for a first helper. Other levy types are not covered, and no care-service subsidy is applied to the levy.

Which Costs Sit Outside The Headline Fee?

Enter transport, consumables and other ongoing costs in the extra-monthly field; they rise with inflation and get no subsidy. Put home changes, placement or agency fees in the one-off setup field. Count insurance payouts or grants only once their terms are confirmed, and do not subtract an offset already in a quoted net fee.

Test shorter and longer care, a lower subsidy and faster inflation. An even family split is only a starting point: some split by income or count a carer’s time. Use Keep This Scenario to compare a helper with a nursing home, and AIC for service and support information. A cheaper option is not always the right level of care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Ten-Year Total The Amount I Need Today?

No.

The ten-year figure adds up yearly costs, with inflation applied after each year. It is not the amount you must have today. The calculator does not model investment returns or payment timing. It can split the cost evenly between the people sharing it.

How Do I Know What Subsidy Percentage To Enter?

Long-term care subsidies depend on eligibility and a household means test, which the percentage field does not do.

Confirm your subsidy with the provider or the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC). The model keeps the percentage the same, even though circumstances and rules can change.

How Much Is The Helper Levy In The Calculator?

The helper option offers the S$60 concessionary levy, only where the MOM conditions are met, or the S$300 standard levy for a first helper.

It does not cover every levy type, and it does not apply a care-service subsidy to the helper levy.

What Other Eldercare Costs Should I Include?

Enter transport, consumables and other ongoing costs in the extra-monthly field.

Put home changes, placement or agency fees in the one-off setup field. Count insurance payouts or grants only after you confirm their terms. Do not subtract an offset that is already in a quoted net fee.
