What This Estimate Assumes

Simple maths: the gain needed = 1 ÷ (1 − loss) − 1. Years to recover assume a steady yearly return, compounded once a year, from the lower value. Ignores new money added, withdrawals, fees, dividends and tax. Real markets do not move steadily. Checked 4 October 2026. General information and estimates only, not financial, tax or legal advice.

Before You Use This Number

Why Is The Gain Bigger Than The Loss?

The gain is worked out on a smaller amount. After a 50% fall, S$10,000 is S$5,000, and S$5,000 must double to get back to S$10,000.

Is The Recovery Time A Forecast?

No. It assumes a steady return every year. Real markets rise and fall unevenly, and some never recover.
