The 4% withdrawal rate is a common assumption, not a rule or a guarantee. A lower rate means a bigger FIRE number. Leave out CPF here.

How is this different from the Retirement Number? That tool plans a set retirement age, life expectancy and inflation-linked spending. This one asks how soon your investments could cover your spending.

What This Estimate Assumes

Rough estimate. FIRE number = yearly spending in retirement ÷ your withdrawal rate. The 4% default is an assumption, not a rule or a promise that the money will last. The return is a real return (after inflation), added monthly; you invest at the end of each month and amounts stay the same in today’s dollars. Coast FIRE age is the earliest age you could stop adding and still reach your FIRE number by your chosen age from growth alone. Ignores CPF, CPF LIFE, fees, tax, market ups and downs and changes in spending. Not a check of retirement readiness. Checked 4 October 2026. General information and estimates only, not financial, tax or legal advice.

Before You Use This Number

What Is A FIRE Number?

FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. The FIRE number is the invested amount whose yearly withdrawal, at your chosen rate, covers your yearly spending: spending ÷ withdrawal rate.

What Is Coast FIRE?

The age after which you could stop adding money and growth alone could still reach your FIRE number by your chosen retirement age. You would still need income for your spending until then.

Is A 4% Withdrawal Rate Safe?

No rate is guaranteed. 4% comes from studies of past US markets over 30 years. Longer retirements, higher fees or weaker returns may need a lower rate.
